MPIO V7 PMP hits October 26th, 2009, we struggle to contain ourselves

21 Oct

It’s been a pretty long while since we heard anything from MPIO — so this is certainly good news. The V7 — a 3-inch PMP which will apparently boast a (possibly capacitive) touchscreen LCD, an accelerometer, and an FM radio, at a thickness in the neighborhood of 10.5mm. We also know that it’ll come in both 4GB and 8GB varieties — but specs beyond this are sadly absent. We’ll see what else we can dig up for you, but look for it to run ₩129,000 for the 4GB model and ₩159,000 ($109 and $134, respectively) for the 8 when it launches on Korea on October 26th.

Google Audio music service launching soon? (update: seems it!)

21 Oct

So TechCrunch has it from multiple sources that a US (at least) music service launch from Google is imminent. Possibly named Google Audio, it’s unclear whether the service will stream music from the major labels and/or offer it as downloadable tracks. Scuttlebutt says that the service will differ from Google’s free, search and download music offering available in China since 2008. Now go ahead, kick back and imagine a Google music service tightly integrated with Android while we dig for more details.

[Via Pocket-lint]

Update: Looks like Google’s planning to dive on in with iLike and LaLa, and the whole shindig may end up being called One Box.

Yamaha’s PDX-60 wireless iPod / iPhone dock adds yAired to the lexicon

21 Oct

Sony’s got its S-AIR, Yamaha has its yAired — so, what of it? The outfit famous for making just about everything from ATVs to wicked soundbars has today introduced a classy addition to the oversaturated iPod / iPhone sound system market: the PDX-60. Apple loyalists simply dock their media player in the wireless base and watch as the tunes are streamed effortlessly into the magical box on the other side. There’s also remote control capability for keeping tabs on that playlist whilst planted on the sofa, and the dock can even power on and off automatically with “yAired-enabled iPhones / iPods.” The music maker itself boasts a pair of 3.25-inch speakers and a digital amplifier of undisclosed wattage, and it’s available in black, gray, blue or pink for $299.95. So, any takers, or are you stickin’ with Bose?

Rihanna Plays “Russian Roulette” on First Single From New Album “Rated R”

20 Oct

rihanna-russian-roulette
Los Angeles, CA (CNS) – “So just pull the trigger,” Rihanna sings in her brand new single, “Russian Roulette,” which just premiered. Chris Brown should watch out. The midtempo track features an emotionally charged Rihanna pulling out the big guns and getting personal about her their tumultuous relationship.

“Russian Roulette” is the first single from Rihanna’s upcoming fourth studio album, “Rated R.” The track was written and produced by Ne-Yo, who not only duetted with the singer on “Hate That I Love You” from 2007’s “Good Girl Gone Bad,” but also helmed her #1 hits “Unfaithful” and “Take a Bow.”

The video for “Russian Roulette” will be directed by Anthony Mandler, who previously worked with the singer on clips like “Disturbia” and “Shut Up and Drive.” The video will premiere on ABC.

“Rated R” will also feature production work from The-Dream and Tricky Stewart, Justin Timberlake, Chase & Status, Stargate, and more. The album hits stores Monday, November 23rd.

[VIDEO] Get a look at Queen in LEGO Rock Band

20 Oct

Queen-ROck-Band-Lego

The LEGO Rock Band version of Iggy Pop horrified me, but the LEGOfied Queen that appears in the game delights me. Just look at Brian May’s hair!

Below is the first footage of Queen in EA/Harmonix’s blocky take on traditional Rock Band. They sing “We Are The Champions,” and it all looks predictably fun and goofy.

Still, after the furore caused by Kurt Cobain’s controversial  appearance in Guitar Hero 5, I’m curious to see how people react to the late Freddie Mercury being in this. My guess is they’ll get away with it. I can’t imagine anyone getting their knickers in a bunch about tongue-in-cheek LEGO versions of dead rockers.

That, and Harmonix will probably make sure you can’t use Freddie to rap to Flavor Flav.
